Parks City Ideas Lab: Meeting the Needs of Older Residents (Watch Video)

  • The students recommend conducting interviews and focus groups to understand the needs of elders and their caregivers. They also recommend making parks more accessible, increasing park security, and incorporating senior playground facilities.

  • The students recommend accessibility (walking surfaces, exercise equipment, rest areas), safety (lighting, wide pathways, handrails, covered areas), and access for lower SES (transportation, physical activity, information Hub).

  • The students recommend for an initiative wherein high school students sponsor seniors, weekly activity sheet and monthly newsletters, and well elder project in collaboration with Ontario Tech University.
