Student ideas

  • Limiting pesticides while increasing native or alien flowers allows different bee species to thrive for maximum benefits. Green roofs are also a viable option for hive implantations on rooftops. The aforesaid will increase the hive quantities while keeping clear of pedestrians and their daily routines.

  • Educate gardeners and others in that field about plants that attract and promote the native bee population. Practices can be implemented in Oshawa to keep native bees thriving by providing alternative environments catered to their needs.

  • Place beehives in areas around the Lake Ontario shoreline, University campuses, commercial rooftops, and areas adjacent to the Green Belt. Using these areas, Oshawa would be one step closer to an enjoyable, sustainable, and healthy built environment.
